Current Construction Projects

Pedestrian and vehicular traffic should be extra careful around construction areas and follow constructon zone signs for their own and workers' safety.

BUENA VISTA STREET AND WINONA AVENUE RECONSTRUCTION

City Council approved a $1.0 million project to reconstruct Buena Vista Street and Winona Avenue at the I-5 freeway. The project, funded by Federal stimulus money, is expected to begin in September 2010 and will widen Buena Vista Street north of Winona Avenue, widen Winona Avenue west of Buena Vista Street, upgrade the traffic signal at Buena Vista Street and Winona Avenue, and add safety features to the rail crossing just south of Winona Avenue.

INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS ON ALAMEDA AVENUE & BUENA VISTA STREET

The City of Burbank is working to improve two major streets and add capacity at the busy Alameda/Buena Vista intersection this summer. This work will temporarily cause delays but will ultimately reduce congestion and replace deteriorated infrastructure. The new asphalt paving incorporates recycled tire rubber, resulting in a more durable and quiet street surface and a reduction in landfill waste.

The work includes widening, reconstruction, and resurfacing of both Alameda Avenue and Buena Vista Street. Alameda Avenue will be resurfaced between Naomi Street and Lincoln Street, and Buena Vista Street will be resurfaced from Alameda Avenue to Riverside Drive. The project is scheduled to be completed by fall 2010.

The streets will remain open for vehicular traffic during construction but will be restricted during certain phases of the project. Sidewalk detours will occur as Alameda Avenue is widened in front of Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center. Expect delays during construction, announced by signage and changeable message boards. Parking will be restricted with appropriate, temporary signage.

Your cooperation and patience is appreciated during the construction of this project. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the project manager, Omar Moheize, at (818) 238-3943.

SIDEWALK REPAIR/REPLACEMENT AND PEDESTRIAN RAMPS PROJECT BEGINS ON HILLSIDE AREA

The City's contractor, Kalban Inc., will begin work May 18 on a project to repair or replace sidewalks, curb/gutters, driveways and pedestrian ramps. This work will take place within the southeast corner of the city. The limits of the project are from the Glendale boundary northwest to Magnolia Boulevard, above Kenneth Road. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of August, 2010.

Streets will remain open to vehicular traffic at all times during construction but there will be periodic parking restrictions on residential streets to facilitate the work. These temporary parking restrictions will be posted in advance.
The work is being funded by funds received from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, more widely known as federal stimulus funding.

VERDUGO AVENUE ROADWAY CONFIGURATION

Public Works restriped Verdugo Avenue between Olive Avenue and Hollywood Way several months ago to install separate bicycle lanes in accordance with the Burbank Bicycle Master Plan.  The new roadway configuration is undergoing a six month trial testing period to determine impacts on travel in the corridor.  The evaluation of corridor operation will include the level of traffic congestion, bicycle usage in the corridor, and impacts on travel safety.  Results of the evaluation will be presented to Ctiy Council in October 2010.
